The United States is negotiating with Venezuela's interim government to acquire stakes in more than a dozen of the country's oil fields, including the possibility of a 100-year concession, according to Axios and Bloomberg. The talks, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and interim President Delcy Rodríguez, aim to substantially increase US oil reserves and allow greater participation of US companies in the exploration and development of Venezuelan oil assets. Venezuela has the world's largest proven oil reserves, but its production has remained below historical levels due to infrastructure degradation and the economic crisis. The negotiations come after Washington eased sanctions to allow American companies to return to the country.
