US Army says Strait of Hormuz is free of mines and open

Sábado28 August 2026 at 07:21

The United States Central Command (Centcom) announced that the Strait of Hormuz is free of mines and open to navigation. The statement was made by Admiral Brad Cooper, Centcom commander, during a press conference.

According to Cooper, the international and recognized maritime routes in the strait are free of Iranian naval mines. The admiral attributed this achievement to the "incredible work" of the United States Armed Forces.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important maritime routes in the world, through which a significant portion of global oil traffic passes. The region has been the scene of tensions between the United States and Iran in recent years.

There goes the pilgrimage of São João d'Arga

Another edition of the traditional pilgrimage of São João d'Arga took place in the Serra d'Arga, in Caminha. Pilgrims and visitors fulfilled the centuries-old tradition of climbing to the sanctuary and walking three times around the chapel, followed by the offering of two alms: one to the saint and one to the devil. The night of June 28 to 29 once again attracted thousands of people, who gathered to the sound of concertina, challenge singing, chiripiti and green wine, in what is considered one of the most traditional and authentic pilgrimages in Minho.
