Europe successfully launched the MTG-I2 satellite aboard the Ariane 6 rocket from French Guiana, completing the first trio of third-generation Meteosat satellites. This launch represents an important milestone for European meteorological capability, enabling the full operationalization of the system.
The consortium responsible for the project includes the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Satellite Meteorological Systems (EUMETSAT), which work together to ensure the continuity and quality of meteorological observation services.
With the entry into operation of MTG-I2, the system now provides high-resolution data and images every 2.5 minutes, a significant improvement over previous generations of meteorological satellites.
This new constellation aims to substantially improve weather forecasting and early warning of extreme weather events, contributing to better protection of European populations and territories against adverse weather conditions.
