What time is the lunar eclipse on August 27? Phenomenon can be seen throughout Brazil

oglobo27 August 2026 at 23:32

Between Thursday night (27) and early Friday morning (28), a partial lunar eclipse may be seen throughout Brazil. The best time to watch the phenomenon will be during the early morning hours.

By Brasília time, the eclipse begins at 10:24 PM today. At the beginning of the phenomenon, the Moon enters the penumbra, which is the lighter region of the shadow projected by Earth. Because it is a subtle change in brightness, this first stage may be difficult to see with the naked eye.

The partial phase of the eclipse begins at 11:34 PM. From that time on, the Moon begins to enter the umbra, which is the darkest part of Earth's shadow, and the darkening of its surface becomes more evident.

The peak of the eclipse is expected at 1:13 AM on Friday, when 96.2% of the lunar disk will be within the umbra.

Two thousand buried underwear made a map of the hidden life in the soil

More than 2,000 pairs of cotton underpants were buried in Switzerland in a scientific initiative called the "Underpants Test," launched in 2021 by the University of Zurich and Agroscope, with the participation of approximately 1,000 citizen scientists. The method, despite being humorous, is an effective way to assess soil health: the faster the underpants decompose, the more microbial activity exists in the area, indicating a healthier soil. The project demonstrates that advanced technology is not needed to monitor underground biodiversity.
