The MTG-I2 satellite was successfully launched aboard the Ariane 6 rocket from French Guiana, marking an important milestone for European meteorology. This launch concludes the first trio of Third Generation Meteosat satellites, reinforcing the Earth observation capability of the European Space Agency.
The MTG-I2 joins the already operational MTG-I1 and MTG-S1 satellites, forming a complete European weather constellation. This infrastructure now enables continuous collection of atmospheric data over Europe and Africa.
The data collected by the new satellites offers high-resolution images and information, with updates every 2.5 minutes. This unprecedented temporal resolution represents a significant advance in atmospheric phenomenon monitoring capability.
The improvement in observation frequency aims to strengthen weather forecasting and early warning of extreme climate events. This enhanced capability is particularly important for the protection of populations and property against increasingly frequent and intense phenomena.
