President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a candidate for re-election, answered questions from the National Journal on Thursday night (27) on various topics, including the Federal Police investigations involving his son, Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, known as Lulinha, and former chief of staff Marco Aurélio Ribeiro Santana, known as Marcola.
Regarding suspicions of influence peddling involving Lulinha, Lula stated that his son has the obligation not to have committed any mistakes, but classified the accusations as "inferences." The president said he does not intend to protect his son and that, at this time, there is no evidence against him, only intercepted phone conversations.
Lula also defended Marcola, his former chief of staff who worked alongside him for more than eight years, stating that their relationship was "almost like father and son." The president recalled that he himself was targeted by investigations during Operation Car Wash and declared that he wants to "reclaim territory" from crime.
