Scientists initially attributed a flood that occurred suddenly on the border between Nepal and Tibet to an earthquake, but subsequent investigations revealed that the event was actually caused by a glacial collapse. The phenomenon, known as a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF), occurs when a large mass of ice breaks abruptly, releasing a huge amount of water and debris suddenly.

New Intensive Care Unit has already monitored more than 70 patients

The new Intensive Medicine Unit (PAMI) of the Local Health Unit of the Northeast has already followed more than 70 patients in its first month of operation. The PAMI ensures the permanent presence of an intensivist doctor 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with the objective of bringing intensive medicine closer to critical patients and reducing the time for specialized response. The diversified healthcare activity included situations of severe infectious disease, shock, respiratory failure, cardiovascular and neurological emergencies, hemorrhage, trauma, intoxication, and cardiorespiratory arrest, allowing for timely recognition of clinical severity and initiation of resuscitation and advanced support measures.
