From Central Park to Louis Vuitton, the Yayoi Kusama brand beyond the polka dots (1929-2026)

The Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, known as the "Queen of Polka Dots," died at 97 in Tokyo. Born in 1929, she transformed the hallucinations she suffered since childhood into a prolific body of work spanning painting, sculpture, performance, literature, and poetry, becoming a key figure of psychedelia and one of the most important artists of the 20th century. She returned to Japan in 1973 due to mental health issues, voluntarily committing herself to a psychiatric institution in 1990, from where she continued to create. She received numerous awards, including the Praemium Imperiale in 2006, and left a legacy that will be preserved by her company.
