Icelanders say 'no' to EU accession negotiations

Icelandic voters went to a referendum and rejected the resumption of European Union accession negotiations.

The result was a victory for the "no" side, indicating that Iceland does not intend to advance the integration process with the European bloc.

The referendum was called for the population to decide on the future of negotiations with the EU.

Iceland had previously suspended accession negotiations, and the popular consultation confirmed the decision not to resume them.
