The first edition of the Avante! Festival took place in 1976, organized by the Portuguese Communist Party. The event was held at the former International Fair of Lisbon (FIL).

An explosion left the venue without electricity on the eve of the event's opening, creating a moment of great tension among the organizers.

Despite the incident, the PCP did not give up and went ahead with the festival. The party declared that "there is no bomb that can make them give up" their determination to carry the event through.

The festival ended up completely filling the FIL space, with a "sea of people" packing the venue, demonstrating the success of the inaugural edition.

João Sousa, leader of PSD/Felgueiras, stated in an interview with Semanário de Felgueiras that the party is experiencing a moment of "very important generational renewal," managing to gather prepared and competent young people to work for the municipality. Sousa criticized socialist management for lack of strategic vision in housing, pointing out the waste of funding opportunities through the PRR, and for the slowness and poor planning of road network works, which have severely penalized traditional commerce in Felgueiras and Lixa. The leader reaffirmed PSD's commitment to building a solid alternative for the municipality's development.
