Hopelessness

The discouragement with the presidential election is due to the fact that it is the first since redemocratization that does not bring any trace of hope to voters. The first direct election after redemocratization, in 1989, brought the novelty of the "Marajá hunter," the then governor of Alagoas Fernando Collor, against the icons of the Brazilian left, Leonel Brizola returning from exile, and the labor leader Lula, who had faced the military dictatorship with the workers' strikes in São Bernardo. Everything was new, and voters were motivated, full of hope.

"We managed to gather prepared, competent young people with a huge desire to work for the municipality"

João Sousa, leader of PSD/Felgueiras, stated in an interview with Semanário de Felgueiras that the party is experiencing a moment of "very important generational renewal," managing to gather prepared and competent young people to work for the municipality. Sousa criticized socialist management for lack of strategic vision in housing, pointing out the waste of funding opportunities through the PRR, and for the slowness and poor planning of road network works, which have severely penalized traditional commerce in Felgueiras and Lixa. The leader reaffirmed PSD's commitment to building a solid alternative for the municipality's development.

Professor Virgílio

Virgílio Pereira, known as "Professor Virgílio," was a Madeiran politician who, despite never having desired a political career, had a remarkable trajectory that began after April 25, 1974, on the Administrative Commission of the Funchal City Council, later serving in the European Parliament and the Assembly of the Republic. Initially independent, he joined the PSD, where he became vice-president of the party, always maintaining his independent spirit and not hesitating to disagree with the party line when he deemed it necessary.
