A decade of impeachment: from Cunha to Janaína Paschoal, how some of the pivots of Dilma's removal are today

The impeachment of Dilma Rousseff, concluded in 2016, completed a decade and revealed to the Brazilian public jurists who had been little known until then, as well as politicians who benefited from the process to rise to power. The vote in the National Congress divided the country between those who defended the legality of the process and those who classified it as a coup against democracy.

Jurist Janaína Paschoal gained national prominence by signing, alongside jurists Miguel Reale and Hélio Bicudo, the impeachment request against Dilma. Known as "the woman of the impeachment," she projected her image during the process sessions and managed to get elected as a state deputy in São Paulo in 2018, receiving record-breaking votes.

Michel Temer, who was Dilma's vice president, took over the presidential palace after the conclusion of the process. The PMDB member governed the country until the end of the term in 2018.

Jair Bolsonaro, who at the time was one of the names from the "low clergy" of the Chamber of Deputies, displayed during the process the most radical facet that would take him to the presidential palace. Eduardo Cunha, then speaker of the Chamber, was also a central figure in the progress of the impeachment.
