Winner of the 2026 César Award, the most important in French cinema, "The Attachment" is a feature film by director Carine Tardieu that investigates the complexity of new family arrangements. The film is showing in Brazilian theaters.
The plot follows Sandra, played by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, a fifty-year-old bookseller who comes into contact with motherhood by accident. By sharing the intimacy of her neighbor and children, she discovers the beauty of unexpected affections and the nuances between blood ties and those of adoption.
In a telephone interview, Tardieu stated that "the love or affection we dedicate to someone is never static", depending on the moment of the encounter, the reasons why people meet and the time that passes. For the director, attachment comes before love.
Adapted from the novel "Intimacy", by Alice Ferney, the film transforms a domestic tragedy into a bittersweet dramatic comedy. When Sandra's neighbor goes into labor, the bookseller accepts to take care of her children, beginning a journey about the different types of emotional bonds.
