Coimbr'a Pedal defends bicycle system

Diário de Coimbra30 August 2026 at 08:00

The association Coimbr'a Pedal expressed support, albeit with reservations, for the petition "For the end of dockless scooters and shared bicycles in Coimbra". The group recognizes that the petition, which has already collected more than a thousand signatures, raises legitimate questions about the impact of these vehicles in the city.

The association recalls that the Coimbra Municipal Council has the responsibility to inspect and regulate the use of these shared vehicles on public roads. It argues that the solution should not only involve prohibition, but also better management and urban planning.

Coimbr'a Pedal emphasizes the importance of bicycles as a sustainable means of transport in the city, warning that a total prohibition could harm those who use this type of vehicle responsibly. The group calls for a balance between public safety and the promotion of sustainable mobility alternatives.
