The Supreme Court Requests a Meeting with Bolaños and a Salary Increase for Its Officials

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General30 August 2026 at 07:19

Judge Pablo Lucas stopped presiding over the Third Chamber of the Spanish Supreme Court. His termination as head of the Contentious Chamber of the High Court occurred on July 13, when he turned 72, the maximum age limit for holding the position.

At that moment, Lucas also abandoned his responsibility as liaison judge with the National Intelligence Center (CNI). This role was taken over by the president of the Second Chamber, Andrés Martínez Arrieta, with whom he shared the same appointment date at the court.

Just one week before leaving the High Court, Lucas presented a report in which he proposed various measures, including a request to the Ministry of Justice for a salary increase for Supreme Court officials.

The objective of this salary increase would be to bring the salaries of Supreme Court officials in line with those of the courts in Madrid, in an attempt to resolve existing salary inequalities.
