Domingos Simões Pereira says that the worst part of prison was "managing the emptiness"

Domingos Simões Pereira, leader of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), was imprisoned and considers that the worst part of the prison experience was "managing the emptiness". This was how he described the feeling of loneliness and uncertainty during the period he remained detained.

The Guinean politician recently launched a book in Lisbon in which he proposes the refoundation of the State in Guinea-Bissau. The work presents his reflections and political proposals for the country, advocating for a deep restructuring of institutions and the governance system.

Regarding his release from prison, Domingos Simões Pereira stated that he still does not know "under what conditions" it was negotiated by Portugal. This statement suggests that the release process involved diplomatic contacts or negotiations between Portuguese and Guinean authorities, whose details remain unknown to the main interested party.

The book launch in Lisbon indicates that the PAIGC leader maintains an active presence in the political landscape and intends to influence the future of Guinea-Bissau from abroad, presenting his ideas for the reconstruction of the State.

The pulse between "yes" and "no" keeps Iceland on edge, with a slight advantage for the rejection of EU entry

The Icelandic referendum on reopening accession negotiations to the European Union, held on Saturday, shows a slight advantage for "no" with 51.1% against 49.8% for "yes", according to almost 80% of ballots counted. The result reversed the trend observed when 60% of votes were counted, when "yes" led by a minimal margin. The rejection comes from the most remote regions and urban areas, where counting is slower. The Electoral Authority warned that official results will be known at noon on Sunday.
