The Argentine women's field hockey team, known as Las Leonas, won the world championship title by defeating the Netherlands 3-1 in a shoot-out. The match, played in Amstelveen, ended in a 1-1 draw in regular time, which led to the decision going to the penalty shootout.
The result gave Argentina their third world title in the history of the competition. The first title was won in 2000, and the second in 2010, both editions also held in Europe.
The Argentine team demonstrated mental strength by overcoming the Dutch team, who were playing at home, in the shoot-out decider. The title consolidates Argentina as one of the powerhouses of women's field hockey worldwide.
