Brazilian Daniel Cargnin is Champion of the Lausanne Judo Grand Slam

Brazilian Daniel Cargnin, from the lightweight category (-73kg), was champion of the Lausanne Judo Grand Slam this Saturday. He had a perfect campaign throughout the day, defeating five opponents and winning his second gold medal in competitions of this magnitude, as well as being the fourth podium for Brazilian judo at the event in Switzerland.

In the final, Cargnin achieved an impressive comeback against Russian Danil Lavrentev. The Brazilian started the day defeating Georgian Mikheili Bakhbakhashvili on penalties 3-1. In the round of 16, he defeated Turk Ibrahim Demirel in the same way, imposing good wrestling volume and causing the opponent to be penalized three times for passivity.

In the quarterfinals, the Brazilian achieved a yuko against Kazbek Naguchev, from the United Arab Emirates. In the semifinal, he came out on top in a tense confrontation against Uzbek Said-Magomed Khalidov, which was decided at three minutes of golden score with a waza-ari.

Cargnin returned to a Grand Slam final after the Paris stage in 2023, when he won silver. The title in Lausanne represents the Brazilian's second gold in events of this level and consolidates his position in the international judo scene.
