BE-Madeira today demanded that the Regional Government clarify how many of the 329 new beds for elderly people, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, will actually be social vacancies contracted with Social Security and how many will be available for operation by the private sector. The party expressed concern about the lack of transparency in the management of these beds.
The funding for these beds is integrated into the PRR, the financial instrument that supports economic and social recovery after the covid-19 pandemic. BE-Madeira believes that Madeiran citizens have the right to know how European public funds are being used in this sector.
The Left Bloc party alerts to the need to ensure that European funds designated for the creation of social responses for the elderly population actually result in vacancies accessible to those who need them, and not just investment for private entities. This demand arises in a context where the demand for institutional care for elderly people has significantly increased in the region.
