French cyclist Bryan Coquard, from the Cofidis team, won the eighth stage of the Vuelta a España in a sprint finish.

The stage was marked by the withdrawal of Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, from UAE Emirates, who abandoned the race after suffering a crash.

With Pogacar's withdrawal, who was the leader of the general classification, Spanish rider Enric Mas, from the Movistar team, took over the lead of the Vuelta.
