Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar from the UAE Emirates team withdrew today from the 81st edition of the Vuelta a España cycling race after a crash during the eighth stage, which was taking place between Puçol and Xeraco, in the Valencian Community. The withdrawal happened when the rider was leading the general classification convincingly.
Pogacar, 27 years old, crashed in the peloton just over 32 kilometres from the finish of the stage, on a flat straight. The withdrawal represents a significant blow to the rider's aspirations, as he had held the red jersey of the general classification leader since the first day of competition.
