The bird has already produced 16 chicks throughout its life, with ten only in the last two years, being described by experts as absolutely prolific and at the peak of its reproductive career.
Mark Thomas, a biologist responsible for the species program at the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), stated that the male is sustaining the species alone in the UK, with no possibility of denying this reality. The Montagu's harrier is a migratory bird of prey that spends winters in Africa and Asia and returns to Europe in spring for reproduction.
Although the species is classified globally as of least concern on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the British population has plummeted dramatically over the years, making AU's genetic contribution essential for the bird's survival in the country. The RSPB continues to closely monitor the situation as the male continues its reproductive trajectory.
