The Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, said he is in contact with the United States to try to integrate pilot and influencer Lito Sousa, 59 years old, into a study at Harvard University on Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, an incurable and untreatable disease. The minister explained that he made this contact both through the ministry and individually.
Padilha was contacted by the pilot's wife, Mila Seidl, who asked him to contact the American institution. During his appearance on the 3 Irmãos podcast, the minister responded to questions about the possibility of helping Lito.
The minister, who is also a doctor, explained that sometimes a government may find it strange when another government requests something that is internal to that country, especially when it involves a research group. According to him, political pressure or social media pressure would not be enough to achieve this type of result.
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is a rare and incurable neurodegenerative condition, which makes seeking participation in clinical studies a hope for patients diagnosed with the disease.
