Two people bought tickets to the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK), in Vienna, and managed to steal the Collerette, a 200-carat platinum necklace set with 673 diamonds. The jewel had been created by Van Cleef & Arpels in 1939 for Nazli Sabri, queen of Egypt and mother of King Farouk, and had been on loan to the Austrian museum.

Austrian police are searching for the two men suspected of the theft. Vienna authorities released photographs of the suspects captured by security cameras during the robbery at the MAK.

The theft is part of a broader context of attacks on European cultural institutions, which have been targeted by various thefts recently.
