The former director of DCIAP, Cândida Almeida, spoke about an alleged "witch hunt" at the leadership of the Judicial Police. Her statements come in the context of recent controversies involving the PJ's leadership.
Cândida Almeida suggested that the Government revive a rule that was eliminated more than 25 years ago. This rule would allow the PJ to be subject to inspections, something that currently does not happen according to the former director.
DCIAP is the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action, responsible for investigating the most serious crimes in Portugal. Cândida Almeida directed this department, and has now spoken publicly about the current situation at the institution.
