Trump negotiates to cede part of a protected natural space in the US to a real estate developer

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General29 August 2026 at 12:31

The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering ceding part of the famous Yosemite National Park to a private real estate developer, a company lawyer confirmed to AFP. The National Park Service is holding talks with Kingsbarn Realty Capital, based in Nevada, to build an access road from a private property located near the park to Yosemite, in exchange for land in another location, said lawyer Lanny Davis. Yosemite National Park, located in California, is one of the most iconic and visited protected natural areas in the United States. This negotiation comes in the context of the Trump administration's controversial environmental policy, which has been criticized by environmentalists and Democrats. The transfer of protected lands to private interests represents a sensitive issue in the United States, where the preservation of federal natural spaces is a politically divided topic.
