The Chega-Madeira Youth criticized this Saturday the Republic Government for delaying the full implementation of the new Territorial Continuity Mechanism. The youth organization considers that this situation represents a critical financial obstacle for young people and families in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
According to the accusation made by the political formation, Madeiran residents continue to be obligated to pay in advance the full value of airfare to travel to the mainland. This requirement for full advance payment contrasts with what was expected with the entry into force of the new mechanism.
The position of the Chega-Madeira Youth sustains that a Madeiran citizen should not need to "have fortunes" to exercise their right to mobility between the island and the mainland. The party thus expressed its dissatisfaction with how the implementation process is proceeding.
The Territorial Continuity Mechanism aims precisely to reduce travel costs for residents in the autonomous regions, but its incomplete implementation maintains financial pressure on those who need to travel regularly between Madeira and mainland Portuguese territory.
