King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV died this Thursday in the United States, where he was. He was only 34 years old.
The monarch was known as the "world's youngest king," having assumed the throne in childhood. He had been ruling since the age of four.
The king belonged to the Buganda monarchy, one of Uganda's traditional kingdoms. His death was confirmed by Ugandan authorities.
The passing occurred unexpectedly, while the young king was outside Uganda, in the United States. The circumstances of the death have not yet been fully clarified.
