The Youth of Chega-Madeira criticized, on Saturday, the Republic's Government for delaying the full implementation of the new Territorial Continuity Mechanism, considering this situation a critical financial obstacle for young people and families in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The party's youth structure considers that the delay in implementation represents a significant barrier for island residents.
Madeirans continue to be required to pay the full cost of airfare upfront to travel to the mainland, which constitutes a heavy financial burden for many families. This situation persists despite the changes that were approved in the Assembly of the Republic regarding the territorial continuity mechanism.
The changes approved in parliament aim to eliminate the maximum limit on eligible travel costs and allow phased payment of amounts. However, according to the Youth of Chega-Madeira, these changes have not yet been fully implemented, leaving Madeira's residents without access to the intended benefits.
The position of the Youth of Chega-Madeira reflects the frustration of many Madeirans with the difficulties of mobility between the island and the mainland, emphasizing that no citizen should need substantial financial resources to exercise their right to mobility between Madeira and the rest of the country.
