The Portuguese forward Rafael Leão left AC Milan to join Galatasaray, the Turkish club that has shown great ambition in the transfer market. The 25-year-old player, who was one of the most valuable players in the Milan squad, accepted the proposal from the Istanbul club after evaluating other options.
Leão revealed he felt a strong emotional burden with the change. In public statements, the Portuguese international said: «I cried, I was deeply moved», demonstrating the impact that leaving Milan had on him, a city where he had established himself in recent years and where he achieved significant sporting results.
The winger had a concrete offer from Aston Villa on the table, the English club that competes in the Premier League. Despite the financial and sporting appeal of the English league, Leão ultimately preferred the sporting project presented by Galatasaray, becoming one of the most prominent names to arrive in the Turkish championship this season.
