Luanda hosts African summit with challenge of activating conflict prevention mechanism

African heads of State and Government met in Luanda during this weekend to participate in a continental summit. The main objective of the meeting was to discuss and implement an early warning and conflict resolution mechanism on the African continent.

The central challenge of the summit is to implement a conflict prevention system that allows tensions to be identified before they turn into wars or humanitarian crises. This mechanism has been under development within the framework of the African Union.

The choice of Luanda as the venue for this meeting reflects the growing role of Angola as a mediator in African conflicts. The country has accumulated experience in peace processes in the Great Lakes region and other areas of the continent.
