Isabel Schnabel, member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank, argued that central banks need to integrate money into the tokenized environment. Her remarks were made in the context of a discussion about the future of financial markets in the euro area.
Schnabel stated that the euro area has a lot to gain from distributed ledger technology, also known as DLT. The ECB official highlighted that this technology offers new possibilities for the European financial infrastructure.
According to Schnabel, tokenization has the potential to fundamentally reshape financial markets. This perspective emerges within a broader reflection on how monetary institutions should adapt to new digital technologies that are transforming the financial sector.
