Leaders in voting intentions in the presidential campaign, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) and Senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) went through the Jornal Nacional desk throughout this week for interviews. Lula was interviewed on Thursday, while Bolsonaro Jr. was heard on this Friday. GLOBO followed and analyzed the interviews in real time, with summaries at the end of each one.
Lula is running for re-election and would seek his fourth term in office, while Bolsonaro Jr., son of President Jair Bolsonaro, is running for president for the first time. Throughout the week, Globo TV also interviewed other candidates: Romeu Zema (Novo), Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) and Renan Santos (Missao).
GLOBO columnists commented on both candidates' performances. Thomas Traumann assessed that Lula is unaccustomed to tough interviews, suggesting the president faced difficulties during the questioning at the news program's desk.
