Former minister accused of death of presidential candidate extradited to Ecuador

Ecuador's President, Daniel Noboa, announced the extradition of former minister José Serrano from the United States to Ecuador. Serrano had been detained in that country by immigration authorities.

Serrano is being investigated for the assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, which occurred in 2023. The extradition marks an important step in the investigations into the crime.

The former minister will face Ecuadorian justice to answer the charges related to Villavicencio's homicide, which generated significant political impact in the country.
