TSE grants injunction to Garotinho and authorizes ex-governor to resume campaign activities in Rio

The Superior Electoral Court granted an injunction to former governor Anthony Garotinho, authorizing him to resume his campaign activities in Rio de Janeiro. The decision was made by Minister Floriano de Azevedo Marques on Friday evening.

On the previous day, Garotinho had been prevented by the Electoral Court of Rio from accessing campaign financial resources and from participating in electoral airtime, due to an alleged ineligibility that was still under analysis at the state court.

In the decision, the TSE minister stated there is "at minimum a relevant legal controversy" about Garotinho's situation. For this reason, the Republicanos candidate for governor of Rio should maintain the same campaign conditions as his competitors, until the final judgment of his candidacy registration is made.

The minister also considered the risk of irreparable damage to the candidate's legal sphere, since the imposed measures materially prevented the progress of his campaign.

Between uncertainty and outburst

The crisis in Ceuta is ceasing to be a humanitarian emergency and turning into a management and coexistence problem that the Spanish government has yet to resolve. Despite the creation of a single command under the direction of Ángel Víctor Torres, the reinforcement of police and military forces, and the acceleration of returns within legal limits, almost a month after the mass arrival, thousands of people continue to be in the city without a clear horizon for resolving their situation. The government acknowledges that normalization will take time and, meanwhile, the perception is growing that the State has not fully regained control.
