A woman from Illinois, United States, was reunited with her pet dog almost 12 years after the two were separated. Flor, a chihuahua, was located in the state of Indiana and identified through a microchip.
Vanessa Antonino, the animal's owner, lost Flor when she had no fixed residence and was living in her car. At the time, she kept the dog inside the vehicle while working, because she had no other place to leave her and didn't want to give up the animal.
One day, when returning to the vehicle, Vanessa noticed that Flor had disappeared. According to Tanya Ohanian, director of dogs at the Evanston Animal Shelter, where Vanessa currently lived, the hypothesis is that the dog may have been stolen, since, if the animal had simply run away, it would be expected that animal control would have published a notice about the disappearance.
