Fitch keeps French debt rating despite interest rates at highs

SAPO Notícias29 August 2026 at 00:22

The financial rating agency Fitch decided to keep the French public debt rating unchanged, setting it at 'A+' with a stable outlook. This decision was announced this Friday.

The maintenance of the rating occurs at a time when the interest rate in the French market is at highs since 2008, which represents a particularly challenging context for the country's public finances.

Fitch thus recognizes the credit quality of French debt, despite the adverse conditions in interest rate markets, which have been putting pressure on the financing costs of eurozone countries.
