The Israeli military claimed to have killed three people on Friday in the region of Jenin, in the north of the occupied West Bank, in an aerial bombing that was considered unusual in this Palestinian territory. The West Bank, headquarters of the Palestinian National Authority, has been seeing a sharp increase in violence committed by Israeli settlers since the beginning of the war in Gaza.
The territory is not usually targeted by the Israeli military's air attacks, which have concentrated their bombings on the Gaza Strip since the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023. This action marks an escalation in the way Israel conducts its operations in the West Bank.
In early 2025, the military launched a large-scale operation called "Iron Wall" against refugee camps in the northern West Bank, with the stated objective of combatting Palestinian armed groups. In February of that year, the military sent tanks to Jenin, known as a stronghold of Palestinian militancy.
