'The middle class gets upset, but the rich laugh,' says Michel Alcoforado about 'Coisa de Rico' in theater

The writer and CBN commentator Michel Alcoforado gave an interview to the program Fim de Expediente to talk about the experience of bringing his bestseller "Coisa de Rico" to the theater. In the play, he presents more stories on stage, in a kind of show-lecture that expands the content of the original book.

Alcoforado commented on the different audience reactions during the shows. According to him, the wealthier spectators in the audience tend to take the text as a joke and are not bothered by the criticisms in the work. The author himself said he was worried about whether he would be able to get away with bringing the show to the stage.

As for middle-class people, the reaction is different. Some are more shocked and even upset with the play's content. Alcoforado explained that the rich identify with the criticisms and start laughing, while the middle class tends to react in a more offended way.

Despite the criticisms directed at the wealthy, the author clarified that the show doesn't spare anyone. By showing the absurdities of each class, the play generates identification in different audiences, and both the middle class and the working classes are also mentioned throughout the show.
