Portuguese forward Rafael Leão is set to sign a four-season contract with Galatasaray, in an unexpected twist in the transfer market. After weeks of intense negotiations, the 25-year-old player opted for the Turkish club over other suitors.
Aston Villa was one of the main interested parties in the player but ultimately failed to reach a total agreement with Milan, the club holding the player's economic rights. The talks between the clubs did not progress enough to satisfy both parties.
The Milan club had the player under contract until 2027, which made the negotiation particularly complex. Galatasaray managed, however, to complete the operation and secure the services of the Portuguese international.
With this transfer, Rafael Leão leaves behind the experience of four seasons in Italian football, where he represented Lille and Milan, to embark on a new adventure in the Turkish Super League with Galatasaray.
