Doctor Rafael Pelosi argues that schools and hospitals should not offer ultraprocessed foods on their premises, arguing that these environments have a responsibility in promoting health. According to him, the frequent presence of these products in school cafeterias and hospital meals needs to be reviewed, as it goes against the principle of contributing to the population's health.
The specialist highlights that it is not coherent to encourage healthy eating habits among children and, at the same time, keep sodas, sweets, chips, and other ultraprocessed products available inside schools. The discussion, according to Pelosi, involves not only individual choices, but the way these products are made available in institutional spaces.
Among the foods considered ultraprocessed that are part of this scenario are sodas and other sugary drinks, packaged chips, filled cookies, processed meats such as hot dogs, ham, and bologna, as well as instant noodles and ready-made ultraprocessed meals.
