The Maxx Atleta Dogs project investigates the effects of supplementation with spirulina, creatine, and maltodextrin, provided as functional gummies, on the physical performance, metabolism, and behavior of police dogs. The initiative has the collaboration of Professor André Luiz Baptista Galvão, from the UFRR Veterinary Medicine course, and support from the technical team of the Roraima Penal Police Kennel.
The partnership with the Laboratory for Animal Welfare in Veterinary Medicine (LABEAVET) is responsible for the biochemical analyses. During the tests, the animals are subjected to exercises that simulate their actual service activities, with rigorous monitoring of physiological parameters such as heart rate, body temperature, blood lactate, and post-exercise behavior.
This type of study is still extremely rare in Brazil and worldwide. Research with working dogs subjected to functional nutritional protocols and complete physiological assessments is scarce in the available scientific literature.
