Two men are being sought by Austrian police after stealing a platinum necklace with 673 diamonds from the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna (MAK). The robbery took place on Thursday afternoon during the museum's opening hours, where an exhibition dedicated to French jewelry house Van Cleef & Arpels was on display. The suspects purchased tickets for the exhibition before breaking, with a hammer, the display case that protected the jewelry. The piece is valued at approximately $4.3 million, which corresponds to about R$22.4 million.
According to police, one of the men was armed with what appeared to be a real firearm. After taking the necklace, the duo fled toward Stadtpark, a park located south of the museum. Security cameras captured images of the suspects, who were unmasked during the crime.
Police asked for information that could help identify and locate the men. Teams with sniffer dogs were mobilized to assist in the search.
