This is how the Villena Treasure was protected: an isolated armored room and high-security glass

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General28 August 2026 at 18:52

The protection measures for the Villena Treasure included an armored room isolated from the rest of the building, armored walls and ceilings, high-security glass, and five alarm levels. These precautions were described by specialized sources from the Villena Museum (Muvi) during a visit to the facilities the day after the robbery.

Despite all these layers of security, the thieves managed to steal it in just four minutes, managing to overcome all the defenses implemented in the museum.

The museum's specialized sources explained how the burglars managed to bypass each of the existing protection measures, although the article does not specifically detail the methods used by the thieves.

The theft of the Villena Treasure represents a significant blow to Spanish archaeological heritage, given the incalculable historical and cultural value of these pieces, which date from approximately the 10th century B.C.
