The hours that pass are helping to clarify more and more questions about the causes of the devastating flood in Nepal. The preliminary investigations point to the disaster, which has hundreds dead and more than a thousand missing, having been caused by the collapse of a glacier on the northern slope of Langtang Lirung, a 7,200-meter peak located on the border with China.
The collapse caused a tremor equivalent to that of a 5.2 magnitude earthquake, according to the US Geological Survey, and generated an amalgamation of water, ice, and rock that traveled up to 100 kilometers downstream, destroying everything in its path.
