The Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) warned, in a statement sent this Friday (28), about the growing practice of scams known as "false accidents." This communication aims to raise public awareness about this type of fraudulent scheme that has been increasing.
In the first half of the year, these scams have already caused losses exceeding 72 thousand euros to victims. This amount represents almost the entirety of the figure recorded throughout all of 2025, which reached 77,480 euros, indicating a significant worsening of this type of scam.
The GNR decided to publicly warn the population about this growing trend, seeking to inform citizens about the existence of these schemes and how they can protect themselves. The warning comes following the significant increase in the amounts involved in these types of scams.
"False accidents" are a type of scam that typically occurs on roads, where scammers simulate accidents or use deceptive techniques to harm victims, often demanding immediate payments or using psychological pressure to obtain financial advantages.
