Vehicle thefts increased 23% in the GNR area of Leiria

Diário de Leiria28 August 2026 at 17:00

Criminality in the area of the National Republican Guard (GNR) of Leiria registered a significant increase in vehicle thefts, with a rise of 23% compared to the previous period. This data reflects a concerning trend in the region that has been alerting authorities.

The GNR of Leiria is the body responsible for security in the area in question, being the police force that monitors and combats this type of criminality in the zone covered by the Territorial Command of Leiria.

Given this increase, the GNR issued recommendations to the population to prevent vehicle thefts. Among the main guidelines is the advice for owners to always lock their vehicles, a simple measure that can significantly contribute to reducing the risk of theft.

The authorities continue to monitor the situation and develop efforts to combat this type of criminality, appealing to the collaboration of citizens in adopting preventive measures.
