A backpack lost 60 years ago on an Austrian glacier was finally returned to its original owner. The object, which remained buried in the ice for six decades, was recently discovered due to current climate conditions.
The discovery was only possible due to the retreat of glaciers caused by global warming. The progressive melting of the ice revealed the object that had been given as lost a long time ago.
The case illustrates the concrete consequences of climate change on Alpine glaciers, where objects lost for decades are reappearing as the ice continues to retreat.
