Almost 70% of the highest fire risk zones are more than 15 minutes away from a fire station

A new study by INE reveals that almost 70% of the highest fire risk zones in Portugal are located more than 15 minutes from a fire station, exposing thousands of square kilometers of housing to direct risk. The report also highlights that the North and Central regions together concentrated 90.7% of all burned area in the country over the past six years, evidencing the urgent need to strengthen firefighting coverage in the most vulnerable zones.

Fire in housing leaves four displaced in Elvas
