The State Education Secretariat (Seeduc) temporarily suspended classes at Colégio Estadual Augusto Cezário Díaz André, in the Pacheco neighborhood, in São Gonçalo, last Wednesday (26). The suspension occurred after the death of two female students from the school, sisters aged 15 and 16, who died within a few weeks of each other.
The causes of the two deaths are still under investigation by health authorities. The students' families suspect that the cause may have been a contagious disease. Biological samples from the victims were sent to the Noel Nutels Central Public Health Laboratory (Lacen) for analysis and identification of the cause of the deaths.
According to Seeduc, there are no records of other students at the school presenting the same symptoms shown by the sisters. The department reported that it is providing support to the school community while awaiting the official conclusion of the technical reports on the causes of the deaths.
As a preventive measure, Seeduc contacted the São Gonçalo city hall, and a team from the municipal health network was called to carry out sanitization procedures at the school, aiming to protect students and staff from the educational institution.
